Book printing
Trim sizes and binding options.
The right trim comes down to your genre, page count and how readers expect to hold the book. Here's how to choose.
Mass-market paperback (5″ × 8″) is the classic novel trim — pocket-friendly, approachable, and what most fiction readers picture. It works well for thrillers, romance and fantasy in trade paperback.
Trade paperback (5.5″ × 8.5″ or 6″ × 9″) is the all-rounder trim for literary fiction, memoir and non-fiction. It's easier on the eyes at standard font sizes, sits nicely on a shelf, and photographs well.
B-format (6″ × 9″) is the standard non-fiction trim — ideal for business books, biographies and any title that benefits from generous margins and space for callouts or pull-quotes.
Square trims (8.5″ × 8.5″) suit children's picture books, photography titles and gift books — anywhere the imagery is pulling as much weight as the text.
