How to make a book — the real process.
A straight-talking, step-by-step walkthrough of how a manuscript turns into a printed book, from a team that does it every single week.
Step 1 — Finish your manuscript. Get it as polished as you can on your own. A self-edited pass before professional editing saves money and frees your editor to focus on what truly matters.
Step 2 — Editing. Copy-editing at the very least. Ideally a developmental pass first if this is your first long-form book. This stage decides whether the finished book actually reads well.
Step 3 — Design. Cover first, interior second. Cover choices influence trim size, and trim size shapes the interior — so tackle them in that order.
Step 4 — ISBN registration. One ISBN per format (paperback, hardcover, eBook). We take care of this within every package.
Step 5 — Print and proof. Order a single proof copy. Hold it. Read a chapter. Approve the proof before committing to any larger run.
Step 6 — Distribute. KDP for Amazon, IngramSpark for everywhere else. Both can be running side by side.
Step 7 — Launch and sell. The lead-up matters far more than launch day itself. Spend at least three weeks building your audience before you go live.
